I must admit that I have never really found myself enjoying their music. The major let down for me is that once you've heard one of their songs, you know what they're all about. Is the new album a step in a different direction?
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It was brilliant, they made a kick-ass edgy rock album to counter their lame adult-contemprary one before it. "Miracle Drug" is without a doubt among the best songs of their entire career. You see, Bono had some real issues to go through with the passing of his father... there are some excellent lyrics on the album I think mostly due to this - such as "Sometimes you can't make it on your own". Yeah Vertigo was a subpar single that sounded like dumbed down pseudo hard-rock... but there is much more to the album than that! I was pleasantly surprised.

Hey Drumdawg
Went to Amazon and listened to your band's tunes. With all the talk about making it and money and all topics related to a working drummer as of late...well, Drumdawg is the man. I saw two recordings available.

I think the fact that I can buy a used CD of the band for $0.01 might be as insightful as anything about the state of the music biz today and being a working musician.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Those albums are of the past. We fired are singer less than a year after the release date. After that, there wasn't the normal financial push, thus available for $.01 It's very tuff to survive in today?s musical state, especially being committed and monogamous with one band. But you've just got to keep believing in what you do and know that what ever happens, your followed your heart, rather than the quick $.
We've since then regrouped as a three piece and are happier than ever re-inventing our future. If you?re interested in the new stuff, you can check it out here.

Playing in a T40 band, and having to cover U2 tunes gave me a new respect of the tunes. It isn't easy to get that "flanged" sound with echo and that deep tribal sound to go along with it. Especially in a live setting. My props to Larry, a good rock drummer. Gives the music what it needs.

GotaMatchgrip....

A little off topic, but you mentioned "major drumnastics"...... did you see that Police torrent that was on EZtree. Sometime in the late 70's or early 80's with Stuart!!??

It was aired in Germany and picked up/aired by another group Teenbeat or something. Stuart is playing is ASS off!!! His execution was very mechanical, but as other players know, it transmits into ones "sound". What firey drumming that guy blasts. The best Copeland I've seen on video!!

I grew up with Larry Mullen's drumming, I think he was really creative and powerful. The later stuff like Zooropa is crap, IMO, but the stuff they put out when they were hungry is great edgy pop.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">True, that.

...Kinda like Sting doing Police tunes now on late-night TV, & he & the band [w the exception of the drummer!;c)] trying to look enthused?! J/K!! /;cp

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah. Edge had a unique, er, well, "edge" to his guitar sound. You immed knew it was U2 by it, AWA the drum sound & style, & Bono's voice.

I don't listen to U2 for drummistics anyway. I listen to them for overall band sound, & beauty in simplicity AKA "less-is-sometimes-more" in a popular vocal rock context; as ben said, "great, hungry, edgy pop" [like the Police, whom were prob even moreso].

If I want Major Drumnastics, awa General Mayhem, & Minor Concussions, I'll listen to Karizma, Weckl Band, Holdsworth, Tribal Tech, some Scofield, or Planet X... ;c)

Hey ClWar....

Here's the info file from the torrent. This show was on EZtree, so I'm not sure if it's on dimeadozen. I guess this could be my 1st upload/seed?? Or maybe just easier if we did a B&P?? I guess I would want to know how many other people would like it up on dimeadozen.

The Police: 18-01-1979 / Bremen / WDR "Musikladen" / GERMANY

So Lonely - Fall Out - Born In The 50's - Hole In My Life/ Fixing A Hole - Peanuts - Landlord - Roxanne - Next To You

In between their tour with Eberhard Schoener The Police recorded several songs in a TV-studio for
the WDR program "Musikladen",recorded by Radio Bremen.
Before Peanuts: "Dedicated to Jimmy Carter".
During Roxanne: "I like it Stewart. Good".
The recording was also broadcasted by VH1 "Beat Club".
Detail come from here: http://www.cybercomm.nl/~gugten/s19790118.htm
But in his lit it's "Truth Hits Everybody" the last song and in the version i have it's "Next To You", I don't know why.

lineage:Recorded from Satelite TV on VHS recorder > DVD Recorder Pioneer DVR-220 > Ulead DVD Creator for edit with Chapters
